China has officially launched the world’s largest fully electric river cargo ship, setting a new benchmark in sustainable inland water transport. The state-of-the-art vessel, powered entirely by massive lithium battery packs, can carry over 10,000 tons of cargo along major river routes with zero emissions.

Developed by the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), the ship is designed to reduce carbon emissions and fuel consumption drastically, aligning with China’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.

According to officials, the electric vessel will primarily operate along the Yangtze River, one of the busiest inland waterways in the world, transporting coal, minerals, and industrial materials. Its advanced battery-swapping technology allows for rapid recharging, minimizing downtime during operations.

Experts hailed the launch as a major breakthrough in maritime innovation, reinforcing China’s leadership in the global green shipping revolution.
