Honor has officially unveiled the Magic V5, claiming the title of the world’s thinnest foldable smartphone and redefining what is possible in premium foldable design. Launched first in China with a global release planned soon, the Honor Magic V5 sets a new benchmark by combining extreme thinness with flagship-level performance and durability.
At just 8.8mm thick when folded, the Magic V5 narrowly surpasses its closest rival, the Oppo Find N5, which measures 8.9mm. While the difference may appear minimal on paper, the refined curvature and engineering of the Magic V5 make it feel noticeably slimmer in hand. This measurement applies specifically to the Ivory White variant, which uses a proprietary lightweight fiber material. Other color variants, finished in vegan leather and fiber blends, measure slightly thicker at 9mm.
Design Innovation Meets Practical Engineering
Honor’s pursuit of ultra-thin design does come with trade-offs. The camera module on the Magic V5 is more pronounced than some competitors, rising higher due to its advanced sensor hardware. However, the brand justifies this with significantly upgraded camera capabilities, including higher-resolution sensors and wider apertures that promise improved low-light performance and sharper detail.
When unfolded, the Magic V5 measures just 4.1mm in thickness, edging past the Oppo Find N5’s 4.2mm profile. While Huawei’s trifold Mate XT remains thinner at its narrowest point, it achieves that through a different design approach that avoids a traditional USB-C port. Within the conventional foldable category, Honor’s engineering achievement stands at the forefront.
Flagship Power in an Ultra-Slim Body
Beyond its design, the Honor Magic V5 delivers flagship-grade performance. It is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and a generous 5,820mAh battery — an impressive feat for such a slim form factor. Both the inner and outer displays feature 120Hz LTPO OLED panels, ensuring smooth visuals, excellent brightness, and power efficiency.
The device also supports wireless charging and carries IP58 and IP59 ratings for dust and water resistance, bringing durability close to that of traditional flagship smartphones. These additions reinforce Honor’s intention to make the Magic V5 not just a design statement, but a reliable daily driver.
A New Chapter in the Foldable Race
The launch of the Magic V5 highlights how competition in the foldable market has shifted from experimentation to refinement. With manufacturers now battling over fractions of a millimeter, innovation is increasingly about balance — combining thinness, performance, and usability without compromise.
While rivals like Samsung prepare their next-generation foldables and brands like Vivo push lightweight designs, Honor’s Magic V5 positions itself as a powerful symbol of engineering maturity. It may not revolutionize foldables overnight, but it clearly signals where the future of premium smartphones is heading — thinner, smarter, and more refined than ever before.
