ISLAMABAD: An Islamabad crime surge has raised serious concerns among residents after more than 57 criminal cases were reported across the capital within a single week. The reported incidents include carjacking, street crime, robbery, dacoity, and murder, reflecting a troubling pattern of rising lawlessness in several parts of the city.

Data compiled from multiple police stations shows that citizens were deprived of valuables worth millions of rupees, intensifying fears about public safety and the effectiveness of crime prevention measures.

Carjacking and Street Crime Dominate Islamabad Crime Surge

According to official figures, the Islamabad crime surge included 33 cases of carjacking, making vehicle theft the most common offense during the week. In addition, 12 incidents of street crime were recorded, where armed suspects snatched mobile phones and purses from pedestrians in busy areas.

Police officials confirmed that reckless driving and overspeeding were the primary causes. Search operations are underway to trace the drivers, further adding to public concern over enforcement of traffic laws during the Islamabad crime surge.

Accidental Shooting Incident Raises Safety Questions

In a separate incident linked to overall law and order concerns during the Islamabad crime surge, a security guard identified as Mir Baz was injured after his firearm accidentally discharged at a hotel. Preliminary investigations revealed that the guard was inspecting his weapon before handing it over to another guard when the bullet struck him in the abdomen.

Authorities confirmed that the injured guard was shifted to hospital, while the incident raised questions about firearm handling protocols.

Crime records show that Industrial Area Police Station alone registered six cases of auto theft, three street crime incidents, and three robberies during the week. Meanwhile, Khanna Police Station reported four robberies, two street crime cases, and three instances of auto theft, further illustrating the scale of the Islamabad crime surge.

Law enforcement officials say investigations are ongoing, and additional patrols have been planned in high-risk areas.
