Mayor Karachi Announces Single Completion Date for All Development Projects

Karachi: Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has announced a unified completion deadline for all ongoing development projects in the city, declaring 2026 as the “year of development” for Karachi and setting a 100-day timeline to deliver results.

Addressing a ceremony, the mayor said the city administration is fully committed to accelerating development work and ensuring that long-delayed projects are completed without further setbacks.

100-Day Deadline Set for Citywide Development

According to ARY News, Mayor Wahab emphasized that all departments have been directed to work with urgency, noting that funds are available and no development activity will be halted due to financial constraints.

“This is the year Karachi moves forward. We have given a single deadline for all projects, and there will be no excuses,” he said.

Red Line Project to Open in Phases

The mayor announced that certain sections of the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project will be opened for public use in March and July 2026, providing partial relief to commuters while work continues on remaining sections.

He described the Red Line as a critical transport project aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving urban mobility.

KMC Allocates Rs46 Billion From Own Resources

Murtaza Wahab disclosed that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is spending Rs46 billion from its own resources on development initiatives across the city.

He reiterated that funding availability would not be a hurdle and assured citizens that development work would continue uninterrupted.

Scrap Auction Raises Rs227 Million for Civic Services

The mayor said the city council approved the auction of scrap and unused materials, which generated Rs227 million in revenue.

He announced that the funds will be used to purchase five heavy-duty trucks, including:

  • Two for the Environment and Municipal Services Department
  • One for encroachment removal
  • One for parks and recreation
  • One for veterinary services

Major Road Projects Announced

Mayor Wahab also revealed plans for the construction of Jahangir Road and a new road linking Natha Khan Bridge to Pehlwan Goth, with a combined allocation of Rs1.1 billion.

These projects aim to improve connectivity and reduce traffic bottlenecks in key areas of the city.

Causeway Projects Near Completion

The mayor announced that the Korangi Causeway bridge will be opened for public use soon, while confirming that the EBM Causeway has already been completed through efforts led by representatives of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Optimism Over Karachi’s Infrastructure Revival

Expressing confidence in the city’s progress, Murtaza Wahab said Karachi’s infrastructure is steadily improving and that sincere intentions and consistent planning make development goals achievable.

He reaffirmed the city government’s commitment to transforming Karachi through timely execution and transparent governance.
