KARACHI: The Sindh Solid Waste Management Board, in collaboration with Blue Net, held a large-scale Karachi beach cleaning drive focused on waste removal, public awareness, and promoting plastic-free habits. Officials, volunteers, families, and students joined hands to collect litter along the shoreline and nearby walkways, placing waste into sealed bags that were later transported by SSWMB teams to approved disposal sites. Organisers said such Karachi beach cleaning drive activities are being encouraged regularly to protect marine life and improve public spaces.
Managing Director SSWMB Tariq Ali Nizamani said strong community participation, especially by women and young people, showed growing awareness about environmental responsibility. He stressed that lasting change is only possible when institutions and citizens work together and follow proper waste disposal practices. He added that the Karachi beach cleaning drive also aims to change daily behaviour, not just remove trash for one day, so beaches remain clean long after the campaign ends.

Blue Net Chief Executive Dr Nuzhat said plastic waste and household garbage often end up in drains and rivers, which then carry pollution to the sea and beaches. She urged citizens to use dustbins, reduce plastic bags, and support recycling where possible. Environmental officials noted that similar Karachi beach cleaning drive campaigns are planned in other coastal areas, alongside school outreach programs and stricter monitoring of dumping points, to build long-term public awareness and protect Karachi’s coastline.
