Pakistan freelancers earnings crossed a major milestone as the country’s freelance community generated more than $500 million in foreign exchange during the first half of fiscal year 2025–26. Fresh data released by the State Bank of Pakistan confirms a sharp rise in digital export income, underlining the growing strength of Pakistan’s freelance and IT-driven economy.
According to the central bank, Pakistan freelancers earnings reached $557 million between July and December 2025 through computer and information services. This represents a strong 58 percent year-on-year increase compared to $352 million recorded during the same period last fiscal year. Improved documentation and easier access to digital payment systems have encouraged freelancers to bring earnings back through official routes, strengthening foreign exchange inflows.

Registered freelancers benefit from simplified banking rules, foreign currency retention accounts, and a highly reduced tax rate of just 0.25 percent for professionals registered with the Pakistan Software Export Board. These measures have reduced friction for freelancers and encouraged compliance with formal systems.
Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja said the government continues to prioritize the digital economy. She explained that authorities are expanding broadband infrastructure, improving internet affordability, streamlining cross-border payments, and investing in skills development to ensure freelancers remain competitive in global markets.
Freelancers Outperform Traditional Sectors
Industry representatives say Pakistan freelancers earnings now rival or exceed several traditional export segments. Ibrahim Amin, Chairman of the Pakistan Freelancers Association, stated that freelancers generated more than $550 million in just six months, outperforming some established industries.
He expressed confidence that if current momentum continues, freelance remittances could cross $1 billion by the end of the fiscal year. According to him, sustained policy consistency and continued collaboration between regulators and the private sector remain essential to achieving this target.

Reforms Since 2018 Show Results
