Pakistan’s telecom sector maintained strong momentum during 2024–25, with total subscribers surpassing the 200 million mark and broadband connections crossing 150 million, reflecting rising digital adoption across the country. According to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s annual report, the Pakistan telecom sector continues to play a central role in national connectivity and economic activity, driven by population growth, higher smartphone usage, and expanding data demand.
Revenue and Investment Strengthen Pakistan Telecom Sector
The Pakistan telecom sector generated revenues exceeding Rs. 1 trillion during the year, showing a solid 12 percent increase compared to the previous year. The sector also contributed Rs. 402 billion to the national exchequer, highlighting its importance as a key revenue-generating industry. Investment levels remained encouraging, with combined local and foreign investment reaching $838 million, up 9 percent year-on-year. PTA credited stable policies and sustained network expansion for preserving investor confidence in the Pakistan telecom sector.
Network Coverage and Broadband Growth Accelerate
Infrastructure development remained a major strength for the Pakistan telecom sector, with telecom services now covering 92 percent of the country’s geographical area. Broadband penetration crossed 60 percent, while 95 percent of mobile networks have transitioned to 4G technology, improving speed and service quality. Internet usage reached a record level, with total data consumption touching 27,727 petabytes, reflecting increased reliance on digital platforms for education, business, and entertainment.

Global Connectivity and Local Manufacturing Progress
International connectivity improved further as four new submarine cables were added, strengthening Pakistan’s link to global internet networks and enhancing redundancy. The Pakistan telecom sector also made notable progress in local manufacturing, with about 95 percent of mobile phones sold in the country now produced domestically. Smartphones accounted for 68 percent of locally manufactured devices, supporting import substitution and job creation.
Cyber Security and Consumer Protection Improve
The report highlighted improvements in Pakistan’s global cyber security ranking, supported by better monitoring systems and regulatory enforcement. Stronger consumer protection measures helped reduce telecom-related complaints by 13 percent, reflecting improved service standards and regulatory oversight. Overall, the Pakistan telecom sector demonstrated steady growth, stronger digital access, and rising service quality, positioning it as a backbone of Pakistan’s evolving digital economy.
