Punjab Makes EV Chargers Mandatory at New Petrol Pumps

Share This Article:

The Punjab government has made it compulsory for all new petrol pumps in the province to install electric vehicle (EV) chargers.

Officials say the decision is part of the province’s strategy designed to ease EV adoption and address worsening air quality in cities like Lahore.

With Lahore frequently topping global rankings for poor air quality, and with rising fuel costs affecting consumers, the government sees EVs as a practical and cleaner alternative.

Officials hope that adding charging points at new fuel stations will lower entry barriers for EV users and reduce the province’s dependence on fossil fuels.

Authorities are expected to release detailed guidelines soon, outlining how fuel station operators will comply with the new decision.
