The Sindh government has officially declared a Shab-e-Meraj holiday in Sindh for all educational institutions, allowing students and teachers to observe the sacred night with religious devotion and family gatherings. According to the official notification, both public and private schools and colleges across the province will remain closed on January 17 in connection with the Shab-e-Meraj holiday in Sindh.

Shab-e-Meraj is observed every year on the 27th of Rajab according to the Islamic lunar calendar and marks the miraculous night journey and ascension of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). On this night, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was taken from Makkah to Jerusalem and then ascended through the heavens, where the command for five daily prayers was granted to the Muslim Ummah. Because of its deep spiritual meaning, the Shab-e-Meraj holiday in Sindh is considered an important occasion for worship and reflection.

Religious scholars explain that the night is associated with mercy, forgiveness, and spiritual closeness to Allah, which is why mosques remain crowded throughout the night. On the Shab-e-Meraj holiday in Sindh, special prayers are offered after Isha and continue until Fajr, while gatherings of Naat and religious talks are held in many neighborhoods. Families also spend time in prayer at home, especially elders who prefer quieter worship.

In many cities and towns, mosques, streets, and homes are decorated with lights and banners, creating a peaceful and festive atmosphere. People also visit graveyards to pray for their departed loved ones, seeking mercy and blessings for them. The Shab-e-Meraj holiday in Sindh allows families to participate in these traditions without the pressure of school schedules and daily routines.
