KARACHI: The Sindh dengue outbreak has entered a worrying phase as government hospitals across the province report a continuous increase in new patients. In his daily briefing on Thursday, the Director General Health Sindh confirmed that the surge is now visible in nearly every major public-sector medical facility, signalling a broader spread of the virus.
Health officials noted that the Sindh dengue outbreak is expanding faster than anticipated due to ongoing weather fluctuations and stagnant water left behind by recent intermittent rainfall.
Hospital Admissions Rise in Karachi and Hyderabad During Sindh Dengue Outbreak
According to the updated provincial report, 21 new patients were admitted to public hospitals, while another 25 were registered in private facilities, pushing the total number of hospitalized dengue patients to 48 across Sindh. Karachi remains the most affected region, with 15 new admissions in government hospitals alone.
Hyderabad, which has been battling a local spike for several weeks, reported two fresh admissions and confirmed the first fatality linked to the Sindh dengue outbreak this week. Medical teams have described the situation as “manageable but concerning,” urging residents to seek immediate treatment if symptoms appear.

Laboratory Data Confirms Spread of Sindh Dengue Outbreak
Extensive diagnostic testing continues across government and private laboratories. Out of 1,984 individuals tested in the last 24 hours, 173 tested positive for dengue. Karachi recorded 117 positive results, while Hyderabad reported 56 — reinforcing both cities as key hotspots of the Sindh dengue outbreak.
Senior virologists in the province say laboratory trends indicate sustained transmission, largely driven by mosquito breeding in residential neighbourhoods, market areas, and poorly drained streets.
Recoveries Increase but Sindh Dengue Outbreak Still a Threat
Despite rising cases, recovery rates remain stable. Twenty-five patients were discharged from government hospitals, while 20 recovered in private facilities. Health experts, however, caution that recovery numbers should not overshadow the growing footprint of the Sindh dengue outbreak, especially as winter conditions in parts of Sindh remain insufficiently cold to halt mosquito activity.
Authorities Strengthen Monitoring as Sindh Dengue Outbreak Expands
The Director General Health Sindh has urged residents to adopt strict preventive measures to curb the Sindh dengue outbreak, emphasizing that even small amounts of accumulated water can become breeding grounds for mosquitoes. He added that multiple field teams from the Sindh Health Department are conducting daily inspections, fumigation drives, and monitoring hospital readiness to ensure timely treatment for all dengue patients.
Public health officials have warned that without community cooperation, the Sindh dengue outbreak may continue to intensify over the coming weeks.
