KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed the provincial Health Department to accelerate work on 16 flagship Sindh health development projects, stressing that all critical schemes must become operational within the current financial year. Chairing a detailed review meeting of the 2025–26 development portfolio at CM House, Shah said that people should see “visible, measurable progress” in healthcare delivery before June 2026.

Comprehensive Review of ADP 2025–26 Portfolio

The session was attended by the provincial leadership including Health Minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, Planning & Development Minister Jam Khan Shoro, Works & Services Minister Haji Ali Hassan Zardari, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah and other senior officials. The Health Department reported that the Annual Development Programme covering 178 schemes — including major Sindh health development projects — had achieved 21 percent utilisation as of November 17, 2025. Officials presented progress on teaching hospitals, district facilities, medical education, preventive care and donor-supported initiatives.

NICVD’s Paediatric Cardiac Unit Prioritised

One of the most pressing Sindh health development projects reviewed was the NICVD Paediatric Cardiac Unit, revised at a cost of Rs9.924 billion. The Chief Minister said that the escalation summary should be approved immediately because delays in a life-saving facility were “not acceptable under any circumstance.” The CM reiterated that this project alone will transform cardiac care for children across Sindh.

Federal B Area Hospital Near Completion

The meeting was informed that the 50-bedded Federal B Area hospital in Ancholi has completed construction, and procurement is underway. Shah emphasised that since the remaining Rs148.196 million has been released, the pace of procurement must match the urgency of the broader Sindh health development projects, ensuring the hospital opens this fiscal year.

Medical Complex Razakabad Requires Immediate Funding

The Medical Complex in Razzaqabad, a major component of the Sindh health development projects, requires an additional Rs3.082 billion after revisions earlier this year. Shah instructed the Finance Department to release the allocated funds without delay, adding that halting progress on such a large-scale facility would undermine the province’s healthcare expansion.

Gulshan-e-Hadeed Hospital and Maternity Home Upgrades

Officials confirmed that the 50-bedded hospital in Gulshan-e-Hadeed is progressing smoothly with procurement initiated. The Chief Minister said he expects this scheme to be delivered within FY 2025–26, aligning with timelines for other Sindh health development projects.

Shah also reviewed the upgrade of Kamal Khan Goth Maternity Home into a 50-bedded hospital, noting that funding has already been secured. He instructed departments to keep procurement on the fast track and ensure completion within the coming fiscal cycle, describing it as another essential component of the province’s expanding Sindh health development projects.

CM Reaffirms Commitment to Public Health Expansion

Concluding the meeting, Shah stressed that all Sindh health development projects must move forward with coordination between the Works, Health, and Finance departments. He said that Sindh’s growing population requires new facilities, modern equipment, and timely execution, and the government will not tolerate administrative delays.

He added that the completion of these flagship schemes will significantly strengthen healthcare capacity across Karachi, Malir, Bin Qasim, Gulberg and rural districts, aligning with Sindh’s long-term social development goals.
