Abu Dhabi: The UAE Passenger Rail Network is set to begin operations this year, bringing a major boost to public transport by connecting 11 cities and regions across the Emirates. The service, operated under the Etihad Rail project, will link Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah, while also extending to remote areas of Abu Dhabi and Sharjah that previously had limited transport options. Officials say the UAE Passenger Rail Network will offer a fast, safe, and reliable travel option for daily commuters and long-distance travelers alike.
Authorities confirmed that the UAE Passenger Rail Network will also reach Abu Dhabi’s western Al Dhafra region and far-flung desert areas of Sharjah, improving access to education, healthcare, and employment for residents in these locations. Several stations are planned in distant coastal and border regions, allowing people to travel to major cities without long road journeys. Transport experts believe the Rail Network will reduce traffic congestion, lower fuel use, and support the country’s climate goals by shifting passengers from cars to trains.

The UAE Passenger Rail Network is also expected to support tourism by making it easier to travel between cultural, business, and coastal destinations in a single day. With large investments already made in tracks and stations, the Rail Network is seen as a key part of the country’s long-term transport strategy, aiming to strengthen regional connectivity, economic activity, and everyday mobility for millions of residents.
