Pakistan National Security Threat Deepens as DG ISPR Warns of ‘Delusional Mindset’ Undermining State Stability

RAWALPINDI: Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry issued a strong and unprecedented warning on Friday, stating that a Pakistan national security threat is now emerging from within — driven by what he described as a “delusional mindset” that places personal ambition above the country.

Speaking at a nationally televised press conference at GHQ Rawalpindi, he said certain political narratives had crossed the threshold from political disagreement into a direct Pakistan national security threat designed to erode trust between the armed forces and the people.

He said this mindset, pushed consistently by one individual, is attempting to normalise the idea that “if I am not in power, then it is dictatorship,” calling it a dangerous distortion that undermines state cohesion.

Addressing online propaganda campaigns, Lt Gen Chaudhry reiterated that Pakistan’s armed forces represent no party, language, region or sect. Instead, the military reflects the entire federation, with soldiers from every province giving their lives only for the country.

He noted that efforts to drive a wedge between the people and the institution have intensified, becoming a clear Pakistan national security threat. Constructive criticism, he said, is every citizen’s right — but politicising the armed forces or dragging them into partisan disputes is unacceptable.

Narratives Encouraging Civil Disobedience Pose a Pakistan National Security Threat’

The DG ISPR recalled incidents where a particular political leader encouraged actions that directly endangered economic and institutional stability. He cited calls to halt remittances to push Pakistan toward default, instructions to refuse payment of electricity bills, and persistent civil disobedience campaigns targeting military leadership.

He said such actions go far beyond political rhetoric and now constitute a structured Pakistan national security threat, amplified deliberately through foreign networks, including Afghan and Indian social media accounts.

Foreign Networks Amplifying Anti-State Messaging in Pakistan National Security Threat Landscape

Lt Gen Chaudhry revealed that coordinated online activity — originating from networks in India and Afghanistan — spreads and magnifies anti-state messaging within minutes. He said RAW-linked troll accounts routinely pick up the same themes and promote narratives aimed at weakening Pakistan’s defence posture.

He stated that these external players and the political figure he referenced have overlapping goals, creating an ecosystem where the Pakistan national security threat becomes both domestic and cross-border.

He noted that this narrative even encouraged attacks on institutions, including the violent events of May 9 when national monuments and military symbols were set ablaze.

Constitutional Boundaries Crossed, Says DG ISPR, as Pakistan National Security Threat Grows

Lt Gen Chaudhry emphasised that freedom of expression does not grant anyone the right to attack state institutions or undermine operational security. He questioned how openly speaking against the army, encouraging violence, or seeking chaos could be justified under the Constitution.

He recalled how certain voices opposed counter-terrorism operations, demanded space for the Khawarij, and even suggested opening offices for militants in Peshawar — actions he described as part of a long-standing Pakistan national security threat.

He said that while the army fights terrorism in Ma’raka-e-Haq, some actors continue to promote narratives that embolden extremists.

CDF Notification Controversy Also Fuelled a Pakistan National Security Threat

Responding to controversies around the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) notification, he said a barrage of fabricated documents, fake transfers, and manipulated notifications circulated on social media. This, he said, was yet another example of a politically driven Pakistan national security threat aimed at confusing the public and undermining confidence in the chain of command.

He reminded political actors that their primary obligation is to address public welfare in the provinces where they govern instead of repeatedly targeting the army.

Army Reaffirms Neutrality as Pakistan National Security Threat Narrative Intensifies

Lt Gen Chaudhry concluded by stating that the era of political showmanship using the army as a punching bag is over. The armed forces remain focused on their constitutional duties, including defending Pakistan from terrorism, extremism, and hybrid warfare — all threats now compounded by the growing Pakistan national security threat emerging from misinformation and personal political agendas.
